Director, ARCHES at UNC Charlotte

Dr. Mark DeHaven is a community medicine practitioner and researcher and has developed three different medical school divisions dedicated to community medicine and community health science research.  His research program has received continuous federal funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and numerous foundations for improving the health of vulnerable residents in low-resource environments.  Prior to his present position as Director, Academy for Research on Community Health, Engagement and Services (ARCHES), he was Professor and Chief, Division of Community Health Sciences and Vice-Chair and Chief, Division of Community. UNC Charlotte’s Academy of Research on Community Health Engagement and Services (ARCHES) is the lead partner organization to this social determinant. ARCHES is dedicated to improving health in vulnerable communities. The organization includes a group of researchers from many different backgrounds and specialties. The focus of this determinant is social integration and support systems in University City. Visit for more information about this organization.
